About Shu Uemura:
There used to just be Maybelline, Revlon, and Avon. Those were the companies our mothers bought make-up from. Then Mac lipsticks and eyeliners came in vogue. Partially why that became successful was because they didn't test their products on animals. Additionally, the buzz-word hypoallergenic became popular, so more brands like Clinique and Sephora rose in the marketplace. Mary Kay worked similarly to Avon's model, so they sell a lot as well. Shu uemura has gorgeous products and the make-up artists in their retail stores were great at showing what colors to wear and how to best apply the different products. Lancome has been great that way too.
When I shop online for make-up, I will go to a different site than when I'm buying skin creams. I tend to purchase French anti-aging lotions. For eyeliner, I like ShuUemura.com because of its reputable quality and fair price. I used to think their make-up was expensive, but comparatively, for the excellence, it is actually well priced. The other thing I love on Shu's website is their tutorials. When I want to buy mascara, I can read and be taught how to apply it if, let's say, I want a big-eye look. I've worn their powders for years and relish the texture. The biggest challenge is that it does not contain sunscreen. If I could find a comparable product elsewhere with sun-protection, I would buy the powder elsewhere. But for now, I use a rich moisturizer with sunscreen as a base.
