My mom had no idea how do my hair or my sisters' hair (I have three sisters and two brothers). Maybe she was too busy trying to feed and dress us, but she basically dragged the brush (or comb) through our hair and sent us out the door to school. It was at school where we learned tricks of the trade. My friend Sara knew how to braid. She also knew how to curl with hot curlers. We would plug them in inside the girls' bathroom in the morning, and then at lunch we would put them in and eat by the sinks. By the time our afternoon classes began, we were completely beautified. On some occasions, Sara and her older sister, Misty, (who was a senior) would actually trim and shape our hair. Once, the Dean of Students caught us, but she pretended not to notice and walked out of the girls' restroom without saying a word. My sisters and I learned to love the pampering and the glamour.
After school, we spent a lot of time doing each other's nails and make-up. Our brothers would tease us, but we didn't care. We girls still shop and make up together, but mostly online. We all go to ULTA.com because we can get anything we want for our hair, nails, skin, and even perfume. The prices and quality are good. The selection can be limited, which can be a bummer. But overall, we usually find something we like and can afford.
