I come from a long line of strong Eastern European women. My family has been in America for three generations, but the genetics haven't changed all that much. My great-grandmother was on the husky side. She never appeared fat-one might describe her more as large, but appealing. She was big boned and carried most of her weight as muscle. My grandmother had a similar body type, although her legs were longer, so they appeared thinner. Her bust was huge. My mother also has a big bra size (as I do), but no one compares to grandma (and thank goodness!).
The media portrays beautiful women as lean and wispy. That's not the way my family looks, and even with modesty, I believe we, too, are beautiful. The other thing about our bodies is that they are strong. I don't farm or garden the way my ancestors did, but I run and go to the gym five-times a week. I don't like to wear oversized t-shirts or frumpy sweatpants. I enjoy well made, tight-fitting, workout attire. JunoActive.com has a terrific selection of 1X (and larger) tights and workout bras. The colors are pretty fashionable, but I prefer to stick with plain black. They also have swimsuits, but I personally love the aquatard. It's perfect for lap or long-distance swimming. Those types of suits are pretty expensive, but they are chlorine-resistant, which helps with keeping them looking nice longer. The gym stuff-the bike shorts and the bras are all competitively priced.
