When you're living at home as a youngster, you never think about household items. It's kind of taken for granted that everyone has a toaster, a couch, towels, and a bed. I think I had the same twin bed for most of my life until I moved out of my parents' house. It was a drab wooden headboard with a mushy mattress, but it did its job. I don't recall having a bad night's sleep because of the actual bed. Usually I was awakened by nightmares about school tests or dreaming about my boyfriend or worrying that the howling of the coyotes meant they were on their way to break in and eat my family.
