About Shmoop:

My son is almost 17 years old. He's as sharp as a tack. He's very bright and learning comes easily to him. I'm not just some mom bragging about her kid. Those things I say are true, but what's also true is that he can be lazier than anyone I've ever met. It makes me crazy that he has so much potential and doesn't work very hard. Some psychologists assure me that it's just a phase; he's still a teenager and his behavior is typical of boys his age. I certainly hope that's the truth, but it's a tough pill to swallow, especially since we're expecting him to attend college next year. Maybe because he's a little younger than his peers, he's less motivated. It could be that he doesn't know what to major in, so it's easier to ignore college registration and thinking about what to do next. Regardless, it's important that he keeps his grades up and that he does well on his SAT exam. There are a few online study workshops, but one that intrigues me is Shmoop.com. The site is not free, but I feel as if it has enough learning diversity to warrant a monthly fee. The videos they recommend on Schmoop Tube are fascinating learning tools on a variety of subjects. I even noticed they have online courses where you can earn college credit-from over 2,000 different accredited schools. If my son were more self-motivated, this might be a good option for him.
