I've never been a huge fan of boxed chocolate candy. As a kid, I enjoyed Nestles Crunch and Charleston Chew bars, but I never gravitated towards the valentine's candies. I guess I also preferred food treats as opposed to just sugar. Between a bag of M&Ms or a brownie, I would choose the brownie or even a chocolate chip cookie. So as an adult, when I've been given a box of store bought chocolates, the kind with creme inside, I smile, say thank you, and place it in the closet to eventually give to someone else. I guess that's the other thing-I've always preferred dark chocolate. It used to be that only foreign chocolate makers used a high percentage of the cocoa bean to make their treats. Now that the entire word has gotten savvy to the benefits of the dark chocolate, more candy markers manufacture it. A couple years back, while in Las Vegas, a friend dragged me into an Ethel M chocolate store. She had a sample and I tried the pecan brittle. Oh my goodness, it was outstanding. On EthelM.com, I can purchase a box for myself. I also noticed they had mint dark chocolate bars, yummy. Seeing that they don't use preservatives, I am inclined to buy a box to give as a gift. Too bad there's no store here to sample everything!
