About People.com:

Years ago, my girlfriends and I would take long-weekend trips to the islands. Since we lived on the east coast, the Bahamas and other places in the Caribbean were heavenly when we were in the middle of blizzard season. We would get package deals very inexpensively. It would include airfare and a really low-end hotel. We'd pack our own food and spend the days on the beach. It didn't cost us anything once we got there. Those days don't exist anymore since fuel prices went up and the cost of hotels skyrocketed. Nonetheless, it was an amazing time and my friends and I have very special memories of it. Along with food and our bathing suits, we'd bring a stack of magazines. Many of them would be fashion oriented. We loved Elle and Vogue, even though we knew we couldn't afford most of the items the models would wear. We'd also bring celebrity mags like People and Us. We stayed away from things like the Enquirer because we felt like the stories were so outrageous, they just couldn't be true! Nowadays, I have to say, I pretty much steer clear of gossip. I don't care what famous person is doing what. Online, let say on People.com, it's sometimes interesting to see photos of celebrity weddings. I trust that site more than others-I feel like their reputation is "cleaner." But even then, most of the time I don't care about who's going to be on the next Dancing with the Stars.
