Our family loves to eat. We also love to cook and socialize. We use every excuse to have a brunch, lunch, or dinner party. I remember one year we celebrated Flag Day. We baked a ton of pastries, cakes, pies, and muffins and used red, white, and blue wherever we could. We made blueberry and cherry biscuits that were delicious. We even made parfaits with blue and red jello and then put a stripe of vanilla pudding in the middle of the glass. Besides the food, we also like to decorate. We will get (or make) tablecloths, and then include theme-related plates, napkins and cups. It just makes it extra fun for everyone. Also, we like to honor the tradition of the particular holiday. For Easter, we had a bunch of hard-boiled eggs so that our guests could color them while they're visiting. In fact, we are planning to throw a Hannukah party this year, too. Our family doesn't really have a particular religious persuasion, so we just respect all the rituals. Decorating for Hannukah is not too difficult, but some of the cooking had me stumped because some authentic ingredients are tough to find. Food52.com has awesome recipes. The Panko latkes with sour cream and chives sounds yummy and simple to make. The site has original, creative recipes for all occasions. I love that the author of each recipe gives a tidbit of personal detail. This is one of the finer, friendly sites I've seen for anything food related.
